Dear Families;
There is so much left to accomplish before June and yet we are looking forward and planning for the 2008-09 school year. Each spring we make preliminary class lists for the fall. With so many factors involved in building balanced classes, it is not possible to comply with the many parent requests that we receive for placement.
I want you to know that the teachers and I very carefully consider each student’s placement for the following year. The teachers use their experience, knowledge of children, the understanding of education fundamentals, individual needs and strengths, whole classroom needs, learning styles, academic levels, peer relationships, leadership qualities, behavior factors, gender balance, and numerous other factors. Many times, a teacher will even re-evaluate a placement and make changes once we are finished.
Due to the above factors, we will not be taking requests from parents this spring. Instead, if your child has a specific placement need for next fall, please make an appointment with me. I will be happy to meet with you to discuss your child’s needs. Please do not ask your child’s current teacher for a placement for next year. We cannot honor that type of request. Be assured that we will do everything in our power to make learning at Eagle Point the very best for each student. I do ask you to please help your child remain positive regardless which teacher they are assigned. Your support will help assure a great learning experience at Eagle Point. The last several years in August, we had to add new teachers at the last minute, creating many changes in class lists shortly before school started. This summer, we will be mailing students the letters from their new teacher identifying their classroom on August 22, 2008. I hope that this later date will eliminate the need for a second mailing that is an added expense, not to mention the chaos caused when students move to different classrooms.
